Left as is, the only copy of all content created and saved in OneNote for Mac is saved on OneDrive. In addition to being tedious, it wholly lacks in anything resembling security for the note contents. The best backup method as of this moment is to email yourself each and every note created in OneNote. Additionally, there is no option available on the client to export within the native file format (or export at all, frankly). iCloud or Google Drive) for safekeeping? As it stands now, OneDrive will not allow a user to copy the OneNote files to another location, nor will it allow a user to move the files to a non-OneDrive location. Is anyone aware of how one might save a backup of these files to a local or alternative cloud location (e.g. If not, you can join the mewling chorus.Upon installing Microsoft OneNote for Mac, the software client automatically saves all OneNote files in the cloud with OneDrive. If you love OneDrive and can’t wait to trust Microsoft with your data, download the OneNote 2016 for Mac preview here. Hope springs eternal that the ability to “go local” with OneNote is forthcoming. The rest of Office 2016 for Mac Word, Excel and PowerPoint, work just fine offline and with local storage. But in the words of John Locke, “don’t tell me what I can’t do.” Time will tell if Microsoft continues to force their cloud-centric vision and de-feature OneNote. It might as well be replaced with a button: It comically has only One Option: OneDrive. The “Where” drop-down list above, historically a “Save As” location selector, is not a list at all. But don’t worry… it’s “free.” Don’t you feel the freedom? Either you can log in to Microsoft, or you can quit the app. Like version 15.7 currently available in Apple’s App Store, the spanking-new OneNote 2016 Preview heavy-handedly coerces the user to log in with a Microsoft account. Thank goodness for alternatives like Outline.
